in celebration of Imbolc, i'm taking the day off and having an extended weekend. not really. i'm taking the day off and it just happens to be Imbolc weekend, but isn't it nice that we're getting to the time of year where we have all those coming-of-spring holidays and festivals? winter is now officially On Its Way Out.

Are you The One(s)?

Young, healthy and attractive Iksar seeks one or more for companionship, adventure and mindless butchery of lesser beings in the Kunark area, preferably, Field of Bones, Swamp of No Hope and Warsliks Woods zones. I am of the Brood of Kotiz (third rank apprentice, working for the Dark Binder skullcap!), seeking others of similar rank. No preference for class, though tanks and healers would be very useful, and I bring my own pet tank. I enjoy sunlit walks in hostile territory, siphoning the life force of my enemies, and the massacre of goblins, orcs and Forest giants. Splitting of loot is a must. I am not twinked, but don't mind if you are. Whiners need not apply. All replies receive a response. Your pic gets mine. Email me at link below or send tell to Rilgoran (located on last server alphabetically).
Mike has a spiffy new look going over there.

A Knight's Tale is sci-fi? no, it's suck-fi.
Sci Fi Wire talked with Connor Trinneer.

Connor Trinneer, who plays Cmdr. Charles "Trip" Tucker on UPN's Enterprise, told SCI FI Wire that he's pleased his character seems to have caught the imagination of Star Trek fans.

yeah, i've been "imagining" Trip. a lot.

scroll down and take a look at the pic of Angel. heh.
i stopped by the breakroom for a cup of coffee, and they had the television tuned to whatever channel is showing the Superbowl news conference. some guy named Tom who is the quarterback for one of the teams (i still don't know who's playing. don't want to) was answering questions. they really shouldn't let players speak on camera. the guy's a total dumb-ass. 'I'm comfortable with him, and he's comfortable with me, and he's comfortable with himself and I'm comfortable with myself.'

this is only my second post of the day, and i've already used "-ass" three times. today's an -ass day. i'm declaring today Internation Ass Day, so, either sit on yours all day, or get off of yours and haul it somewhere, and maybe go tap some if that's how you want to celebrate. let's all celebrate Ass!
i downloaded the "Five By Five" and "Sanctuary" last night, the two Angel eps that follow up Buffy's "This Year's Girl" and "Who Are You" (the 'Faith wakes up from the coma' eps). i only got to watch "Five By Five" (because the other ep took 4½ hours to download, pushing it 90 minutes past my bedtime) and it was well worth the slow-assed download times. i knew that this was where the Faith storyline was going (i'd seen the Angel ep that ends with Angel visiting Faith) and "Five By Five" fit perfectly with "Who Are You.". the fight scene was kick-ass, the way i'd think that a supernaturally strong vampire and a supernaturally strong Slayer should fight. and Wesley decked Faith! way to grow some balls, Wesley!

i'm anxious to get home tonight so i can watch "Sanctuary"

"Doublemeat Palace" doubleplusgood.

the preview for next week left me choked up. imagine what the episode is going to do.
hey! me too!

placental Venezuelans -- 23,902,200,000

"pluckier Venezuelans" didn't come up with anything (that'll change once Google finds this. there's still the superlative).

i'm enjoying this too much.
i'm a little irked that Angel wasn't on last night. they showed an ep of Smallville instead.

i'm even more irked that i am obsessive fan who usually knows weeks in advance if there's a schedule change affecting the shows he watches and i work for TVGuide, but still didn't know until last night. feh.

Jean always finds the coolest things, though i wonder, does the chess set only have six pieces per side, or do you get a whole bunch of Xanders?

i want the chess set and the poster and the mousepad sets and the wire-bound notebooks, but i really want this:
i'd carry this to work everyday
i've been hit suddenly with a craving for horseradish.

China's first cloned calf died, but the second is doing well, they say. i hadn't heard that China was cloning anything, but this seems to be less about science than about the commercial possibilities (the industrialization of cloning technology). glad to see someone's going forward with it.

Dark Horizons "has word on a new Disney flick about garden gnome romance (and as its Disney it'll be clean so get your mind out of the gutter)."

garden gnomes are evil little beasties that will attack and devour you. they don't know how to love. all they think about is their hunger for human flesh. Disney should not portray them as cutesy little friends who live in your garden, an obvious attempt to take garden gnomes mainstream and make them acceptable. if this movie goes forward, i predict that gnomes will be 'the new thing' and that, across the world, four of five homes will place garden and yard gnomes throughout their property. it'll give the little bastards the numbers and positions they need to successfully rise up, devour most of us and enslave the survivors. we can't let this happen. we must stop Disney and destoy all gnomes.

this article, "Why She Slays Us" (a good read in itself), mentions an upcoming book i'm going to have to get: Fighting the Forces: What's at Stake in Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
an email from a friend at the DEQ:

I just spoke to [a woman] who said she was tortured by the Al Qaeda and watched her family die and that Osama bin Laden owns this landfill where they will release these toxic chemicals that will kill her because she's allergic to everything. She is the only case known to science and her son John Adams the sixth took her to washington to plead her case.

isn't insanity cute?
although it sounds a little like something from the surrealist complement generator, here's the description for a program i'd like to watch:

From the cockpit of a Tornado Fighter Bomber, dip into the history of margarine and plankton, dance at the ballet Copelia, and blow up a dam in Norway with a British commando team to find out why and how Hitler never harnessed heavy water and the A-Bomb.

"Connections" on Discovery Science.
James Marsters, on Spike's nudity. [MAY BE SPOILERY!*]

* now i'm blameless if you follow the link and it actually is spoilery. nyah!
A federal judge in San Francisco ruled against George Lucas in his suit to block the producers of pornographic Star Wars-like movies from distributing their products, E! Online reported. The judge decided against blocking the sale of the animé saga of Wank Solo, clearing the way for Star Ballz creator Media Market Group to resume hawking the $14.95 video online, the site reported.

heh.

i want a Dictionary.com t-shirt.
in the "Why not just call me Horny Giles or Desperate for a Shag Giles?" vein, an unfortunate name.
can anyone recommend a good book on the history of China or Japan or both?

i want a Slave Cordelia action figure! i also want a Faith action figure (but that's mainly because my Action!Buffy is tired of kicking Shotgun Mary's ass. she wants some real competition). see more Angel action figures.

i've got a tough choice to make right now: should i flip over to watch Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers, or should i keep watching Mary Poppins?

it's beginning to snow here. that sucks. i don't like snow. i'd much rather have 100° heat and 95% humidity (geez, i love Louisiana in June).
Jean says that, indeed, this link is spoilery. i will trust her judgement on this and change this to say THIS IS SPOILERY! DON'T GO THERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SPOILED! DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU GO AND ARE SPOILED (unless you went there when i said it wasn't spoilery, in which case, i'm sorry. i didn't think it was spoilery. i was wrong. i'm very bad).

Marti Noxon tells SCI FI Wire that Buffy will be getting darker this season.
things have been busy around here. i haven't had a lot of time to keep up on the important things, so i'm grateful that Tinman let me know that this will be the last season of X-Files. i haven't been watching this season, except for a few minutes of the premiere (to see how they didn't explain Mulder's absense), and i caught a little of an episode in which Xena looked to be trying to drown Doggett. much like when you euthanize a suffering pet, i'll be sad to see it go, but it's time to do it. i'll miss seeing Scully kicking ass in tasteful pant suits and heels and it's unfortunate that they didn't bring Doggett in much earlier, 'cause i liked him.

so now that i've mini-eulogized X-Files, i'm gonna say to Chris Carter: should have let it go out last year and kept The Lone Gunmen. i could really use a Jimmy Bond fix right about now, and TLG gave me a character to boo and hiss: Yves Adele Harlow.
if there was ever an argument for an estate tax, our President is it.
i caught a bit of a press conference with Jeb Bush, and i've decided that we Didn't-Elect the wrong Bush son. Jeb is much more articulate than his half-wit brother, he doesn't speak in soundbitey platitudes (for the most part) and he isn't nearly as evasive as his brother. so i say, let's Not-Elect the other Bush son in 2004! (seriously, should he run ever in his or my life or anyone's life, don't vote for him. we really don't need another Bush in the White House. what, is that family gonna keep trying until they get it right?)

vote Joyce DeWitt in 2004!

here's a review for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Complete First Season DVD.
last night, i watched the first two episodes of Buffy, then watched them with Joss's commentary, then watched them a third time, only it was Buffy contre les vampires (that is, dubbed in French. i didn't understand a word they were saying, but, verily, it did crack me up. if you thought Giles could be pretentious with his British accent, just listen to him in French).

i also tried to figure out why my computer hates me so much. it won't work properly now.

Buffy Toon Stalled? -- please i hope not. i need more Buffy!

WB announces an early pick up of three shows for the 2002-2003 season. Angel wasn't one of them, but that doesn't really matter. i doubt WB will drop it, and even if they do UPN is obligated to pick it up. ha!
even Mikey watched "The Gift" with me and the boyfriend. even Mikey got all choked up at the end.

Tuesday, January 15, 2002

terrence is a very happy man right now. i bought the Buffy season one DVD, and it was even ten dollars off! yayayayayayayayayayayayay! i did a little dance in Best Buy when i found it and i hugged it all the way through the store. and there really is a little insert that says that season two will be out in June. yayayayayayayayayayay again!

i also bought another 128 Mb of RAM. maybe that'll help make the Everquest experience a little better. but for now, f*ck that. i got the Buffy DVDs! yayayayayayayay!

i also stopped off to get the Tales of the Slayer TPB. the comic store didn't have it. i was disappointed. then i remembered that it doesn't come out until tomorrow. hooray! but then i thought, 'hmm... the comic book guy looked like he didn't know what i was talking about when i asked for it.' probably means they won't have it for a while. very sad terrence. but now i have the Buffy DVDs. yayayayayayayayayayay!

did i mention the Buffy DVDs? yayayayayayayayay!
oh wait, i have some things to say about Angel: Cordy/Angel kissage! yay! Skip said that deep down everyone knows their purpose, and Cordy echoed at the end that she knows her purpose. she appeared to know there was something else she should be doing, some other purpose, then she goes and kisses Angel. uh huh. he is her purpose. and she his, and they have a smoochie that restored her memory that proves it. nyah! and Connor is the already-there child that can fill any need Cordelia and Angel feel to have children (until Angel becomes human and he and Cordy can have one together).

i remembered another unanswered question about the show that i had last night. check the line of thought: in season one, Doyle kisses Cordelia, she gets the visions. at the end of last night's ep, Cordelia kisses Angel and gets the visions. so, how did Angel get the visions from Doyle?

yep, Angel/Doyle slash fickers are gonna love that ep.
you know, that Angel ep just makes me feel good. forget "It's a Wonderful Life." i like this one better.
last night's Angel [don't read past this point if you haven't seen it -- spoilery] was a satisfactory conclusion to the Cordy-painful-visions thing, forced upon her by TPTB through Skip (yay for Skip! i love Skip! Skip rocks!). i liked that a chance encounter with Angel is what kept her from being a successful actress, and that in end, she gave it up to keep Angel sane and to fight the good fight (something she wished she could stay out of while in Sunnydale).

even better, considering how not close she and Angel were in Sunnydale, that she hadn't seen him in three years, that in Sunnydale she was largely shallow and uncaring when it came to others, and that once in LA, being around Angel has caused her all sorts of troubles and frustration, it's really amazing that Cordy chose to have her demon fighting life back. it's indicative of how much she's changed. i know it's obvious that current Cordy is different than Sunnydale Cordy, but now there can be no doubt that it's more than a superficial change. had Sunnydale Cordy, at the end of Buffy ep "Graduation Day pt 2" been shown those two possible paths, which would she have chosen? i think she'd have taken the non demon-fighting, fame-and-riches life, for her a return to the less difficult, more glamourous and more comfortable pre-Buffy lifestyle.

i liked the Mary Tyler Moore-esque opening credits for "Cordy!" also, take a look at her when she first appears in the alternate life, on the set before an applauding audience. Charisma Carpenter has an incredible smile.

the biggest unanswered question in this episode: at the end, while having a pain free vision episode, Cordelia was floating. so my question is, does her birthday cake at the beginning presage that Cordy will be wearing a cape and flying à la Supergirl?

Monday, January 14, 2002

i just saw a commercial for Sonic that starred Larry Bagby, Buffy's Larry! it's good to see that he's working. [actually, he's been doing other things too]
Slayage.com has news that the second season Buffy DVDs will be out in June! yay!

season one comes out tomorrow.
the boyfriend, last night, told me that i have a negative attitude. i'm not sure why he thinks that. i've always thought of myself as an optimist nonpessimist. anyone else care to let me know if i'm wrong?
the Playboy channel has a program called Sex Court that has an episode title "Assume Deposition." that really cracks me up.
even mullets need a website.

tonight, the boyfriend will be going to his brother's house while i spend an evening with my four and five year old nephews! it'll be an evening filled with the Pokemon Memory game, Hotwheels, grilled cheeses and, if they have their way, Dude, Where's My Car? (they probably won't, though, since i'm in the mood for some Buffy). yay for nephews!
last night, after returning from work, the boyfriend was standing in the kitchen cooking. as we were talking, i saw him scowl.

"Huh."

a pause.

"The stove's on fire."

after watching for a seconds ("fire, pretty"), seeing it get waaay too big for comfort, and wondering whether our fire extinguisher was safe to use on the stove, we yanked the electric coil out of its socket, tossed it into the sink, dropped a buttload of flour into the drip pan and (for good measure) used a towel to smother it. no more fire. then, the boyfriend and i stared at each other for a second before demonstrating our geekiness/BeavisandButtheadibility by agreeing "That was cool."

i just got the email alert: Tales of the Slayer TPB goes on sale on the 16th. yay!
is nothing happening today that i want to write about?

sad news: Sullivan won the special election and will be our Congressman until November. i knew it was a bad omen when i went to vote and there was only me and one other guy there who wasn't retirement age. the place was overrun with senior citizens.

Tuesday, January 08, 2002

strange. i just ran across an adult film title in the TVGuide database that lists Aaliyah in the credits.
i saw What's the Worst That Could Happen? over the weekend. i answer the question with "This movie." eh, i had no expectations anyway. it's a Martin Lawrence film.

also saw American Pie 2. i laughed once during the entire movie. same jokes, different day. *yawn* best part of the entire DVD was the bonus feature outtakes, and even they weren't all that funny (only two come to mind).

also also saw Glitter. everyone pokes fun at it, but did anyone actually go see it? well, i'm here to tell you, this movie deserves it. did anyone bother to write a script for this film? still, Glitter is better than Coyote Ugly (which retains its position at the top on my list of Worst Movies Ever).
i watched the debate between the two front runners in the Congressional race last night (again, neither of the two independent candidates was invited). John Sullivan, the GOPer, really didn't have much to say on anything, other than the tired platitudes el Presidente likes to throw around. when asked what he'd do to improve education, the only thing he said was "We have to keep the Federal government out of local education." also, he did the "They'll raise taxes over my dead body" thing (seriously, he said that. if he's elected, Kibo forbid, i hope taxes are raised, just so we can demand that he keep his campaign promise). his closing summary consisted largely of thanking his family, and giving a sappy "My wife is my best friend" speech. even in a debate, he tries to duck discussion.

on the other hand, Doug Dodd, the Democratic candidate, was articulate and actually talked about the issues instead of mimicking Sullivan's "God Bless America" chant in a pissing match over who's more patriotic. blech.

unfortunately, the local news organizations aren't giving the Independent candidates any exposure that isn't absolutely necessary. i couldn't tell you a thing about them.

did i mention that Sullivan's campaign office is across the street from my apartment? fire pretty! especially when it's on the office* of a lamoid assmunch like Sullivan.

[* though i stand by my statement that fire is pretty, i do not advocate arson. thank you, and don't blame me.]

Monday, January 07, 2002

tomorrow is the election to fill our district 1 Congressional seat, recently vacated by Steve Largent. a month ago, i was pretty much resigned to having another GOPer, specifically, Cathy "My Husband, the Governor, Wants To Go To Washington" Keating. since she was rejected by Republican voters in favor a John Sullivan, a candidate who, when told that the National GOP was running negative and misleading ads on his behalf, said [not a direct quote] 'I didn't know anything about it and I can't do anything about it,' and who avoided open forums and debates with the Democratic candidate until last week. whenever i read the paper's letters to the editor in support of Sullivan, the only thing he seems to have in his favor is that "he's not a lawyer" [that's an oft-repeated direct quote]. the Democratic candidate is an attorney. i don't understand why anyone would refuse to vote for an attorney just because he or she is an attorney, but vote twice for a former pro-football player who had no other experience with politics.

anyway, if you live in Oklahoma's Congressional district 1, please vote tomorrow, unless you're voting for the GOP candidate, then please stay home.

oh yeah, speaking of Congressional districts, it looks like two of our Republican Congressmen will be facing off next election. Oklahoma is losing a Congressional seat. i'm hoping JC Watts Jr. is one of the ones in the face off. failing that, i hope that they'll redraw the district lines so that JC's district loses one or two of the military bases in it.
you know, i really miss The Lone Gunmen. dunno why i thought of that now.
and another thing the boyfriend did this weekend that kept me from sleeping much: he brought home "Killer Clowns From Outer Space." i didn't watch it, but i still had clown nightmares.
the boyfriend woke me at 3am and whispered "There's someone in the apartment..." i freaked. i grabbed Mr. Big Stick from beside the bed (i've been sleeping with a club next to the bed for years) and crept about the apartment, ready to beat down anything that moved. there was nothing. i checked all the doors and windows, twice, and went back to bed, where the boyfriend was soundly asleep. he'd dreamt it, it seems, but i'm paranoid enough to think of things like 'i didn't check in the cupboards... or the laundry hamper... did i really check behind the couch enough?' so i didn't sleep the rest of the night.

Friday, January 04, 2002

and i haven't received an invitation yet either. feh.
my cousin called today to ask me if i'd be able to go for a tux fitting tonight because he wants me to be one of his groomsmen at his wedding. he's getting married next weekend. according to my sisters, he's been telling everyone but me for three months that he wanted me to do this for him. he just didn't bother to ask me until a week before the wedding. very nice of him, especially now in the post-holiday season where i've had to budget two months out to be certain that i'm not caught by suprise by anything, leaving me with very little extra cash. bah! weddings suck, cousins suck and tuxes suck. even worse, my cousin has terrible tastes in just about everything (except fiancées. she's sweet), which means it's probably going to be one ugly-ass tux.
i added the Buffy the Vampire Slayer board game to my wishlist last month. alas, no one bought it for me (i didn't get anything Buffy-related for chriskwanzukka. everyone thought i already had everything or that someone else would get it for me. bah! that's what wishlists are for! and telephones! communication, people! however, if anyone is still thinking of buying me Buffy stuff, or any other stuff, i'd like to remind everyone that the anniversary of the crowning of Queen Elizabeth I is on the 15th and MLKJr b-day and the holiday are coming up. those are traditional gift giving times too. anyway...)

now that i have a testimonial (from Max, who hasn't had permalinks in forever), i'll have to go out and get the board game myself. there will be resistance, but i'll force my roommates to play with me.
Chicago Tribune, on Bush II's delay of the release of Reagan's Presidential records.

Thursday, January 03, 2002

there are some sports i do like.
there's a ghost living (existing?) in my apartment. we've known for a while that the roommate's room is haunted. there's always been strange noises, doors opening and closing, all the standard ghostly fare, and it's always been limited to his room. every so often, there'd be something odd in other parts of the apartment (usually things go missing and are later found in places that make you wonder 'What the hell?'), but nothing that could only be explained as ghostly activity.

last night, as the boyfriend and i enjoyed a lively discussion about how much my computer sucks, the garbage disposal came on. on its own. no one near it. also, the room was cold, though the thermostat was set for 75°. and later, i found my sock drawer open. that's strange because i have no socks in it (they're all in a laundry basket, awaiting mating).

on monday night, the power flashed off for a couple of minutes. except to the DVD player and television. when the power came back on, the light in the living room, where we were, didn't. i thought we'd blown the bulb, so i went to flip the switch off before changing it, but the switch had already been flipped! i flipped it back on, and the light worked! it was the ghost's work! spooky, isn't it?

Take the What Should Your New Year's Resolution Be? Quiz

eh... ok.
a smattering of year end lists of good television (with Buffy excerpts. follow the links for other programs. all links pilfered from Slayage.com, which is a great place to stay up on Buffy articles):

Neal Justin: The Year in Television. (Star Tribune) The cast of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" can't sing or dance well, which is one reason this musical episode was such a treat. The young actors had to rely on pure energy, and the result was one high-spirited number after another. The highlight: "I'll Never Tell," in which lovers Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Anya (Emmy Caulfield) make like Fred and Ginger. Sexy, silly, sensational.

TV faced reality in '01. It had the best single episode: Feb. 27's ``The Body,'' a beautifully crafted and acted look at death. It had the single most innovative episode: Nov. 6's ``Once More With Feeling,'' an all-singing, all-dancing ``Buffy'' that actually worked. It killed off its lead character in spectacular fashion -- and then brought her back from the dead even more spectacularly.

Primetime's top 10. (Orlando Sentinel) The supernatural series depicted its heroine's return from the dead with poignant eeriness. It established a steamy romantic relationship between Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Spike (James Marsters). It offered a musical episode that was remarkable and daring. Gellar astonished with her wide-ranging talent -- it's time Emmy voters acknowledged her.

Goodies the tube delivered in 2001. (Mercury News) Hits more home runs than any series.

TV watching made easy. (SF Examiner) The Can't-Miss Network Show: Any regular reader of this column already knew the answer to this one. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" gave us two of the most striking hours of television this year with the powerful episode "The Body," in which Buffy's beloved mother died, and the musical episode, "Once More With Feeling. ... Even Examiner movie critic Jeff Anderson called "The Body" one of the best hours of television he's ever seen, putting most major Hollywood movies to shame. So take that, naysayers.

Television in the Year of 9-11 (MSNBC) It was a tough year for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” It was a tough year for all of us. February now feels so removed from the post-Sept. 11 world that it might as well be the Middle Ages. But back in ye olde February, an episode of “Buffy” aired that might just have been the best episode aired by any television program all year.
rumor: N'Sync to appear in Episode II? N'Sync would appear only briefly, as anonymous Jedi knights in the background of a climactic battle scene, who get blown up by battle droids.
to the two Iksar warriors and the single necromancer who stood and watched, though i yelled for help, as a greater skeleton killed my character: your names are now written on a Post-It stuck on my monitor (especially you, Mr. Necromancer, since i've saved your tail a couple of times). i'd conned all three of you, and i know you're weaker than i. everytime i find you, i will train to you anything i can find that i know will kick your asses and pommel you into itty bitty bits. everytime. you'd better find hunting ground outside Kunark.
my New Year's Eve fun: stayed home with the boyfriend and watched kung fu flicks (except for the ten minutes when he wanted to watch the ball drop in Times Square, though i'm sure he regretted it because i ranted about how i'll never understand why anyone outside of the US eastern time zone would want to watch it).

this day is creeping by at an incredibly slow pace. it feels like someone has added in an extra 4 or 5 hours to the morning. eleven o'clock... half past eleven...eleven-and-a-half o'clock... half past eleven-and-a-half... eleven-and-nine-hundred-eighty-three-thousandths o'clock... ick. we're never gonna reach 4pm today, are we?

i wonder how they'll work around that whole "one girl in all the world" thing. maybe you'll have to thrown down with your troupe-mates and stake one of them for the privelage of playing the Chosen One.

my tape of "Once More, With Feeling" is beginning to wear out. i meant to make a copy of it the same week the episode aired but never got around to it, so now, i'm getting some warping and distortion. that is a Very Bad Thing. terrence will cry when he is no longer able to watch it (though roomie!Mikey will likely cheer).

Monday, December 24, 2001

last night's strange dream:

the boyfriend and i, along with 6 or 8 people that we seemed to know, went to the supermarket for supplies. to our suprise, Tony Head was there singing. after he finished, i approached him and said, "Wow, you're good." he said, dismissively, "I know." i replied, "No, i'm being sincere." he looked at me, rather annoyed, and said "So was I." then he walked away to buy fruit punch.

ok, so all i did was point out to Sen. Nickles' people that the only member of the Oklahoma Congressional delagation not to be linked on his website also happened to be the only Democrat in the OK delegation, and that it looked like it was a conspiracy, and that i was fed up with his stupid little partisan games, and that he just needed to do his job because some of us don't care about his party affiliation. but they fixed it. yay for interactive representative democracy!

when Congress reconvenes next year, i think i'll make use of this "in" i have with the Senator and take issue with deficit spending and environmental degradation, since he's listening to me now. [and i'll keep an eye out for the FBI knocking on my door]
Washington Post summarizes this years Congressional session.
yay! my best mate Brian is coming from St Louis to visit for BahHumbug Day! (and he'll have gifts!)
an interview with Anthony Head.
Buffy needs to plan for the future. "And working for free at a highly-dangerous job is not how you plan for the future," he says. "The Watchers should give her disability, a retirement plan and probably some kind of stock options. If you can't work a deal with the Watchers, then she'd have to work a deal with the community, I'd say..."

Paul Peterson, a certified public accountant in Walnut Creek, Calif., e-mails that Buffy's main problem is that "she has half of Sunnydale living in her house rent-free, and she is destined to work as an uncompensated superhero."

Actually, now that Willow and Tara have broken up, only Willow is living in the house rent-free, and she took care of Dawn while Buffy was dead for four months. Maybe that's why Buffy has been so tolerant of the magic-addicted Willow.

Peterson suggests that Buffy charge rent anyway.

tonight wraps up FX's first runthrough of Buffy in syndication with "Tough Love" and "Spiral", two episodes i like a whole lot. bunches, even. it looks like FX isn't running "The Weight of the World" after all (it did briefly appear on the FX schedule, but now it's gone), which means we won't be seeing the last two episodes of season 5 until UPN decides to rerun them. that's ok by me. i already have "The Gift" from last year. that'll leave only "Buffy vs. Dracula" and "The Weight of the World" that i don't have, and BvD airs on Christmas. yay!
i just expanded my repertoire of really bad jokes that nonetheless crack me up more than they should.
why am i getting email from Rupert Murdoch?
after giving it some more thought, i'm now convinced that Carol would be able to take me. she's a tough old bird.
i was nearly in a car accident yesterday with Carol Channing. i'm not certain if she was the Carol Channing or a man dressed as Carol, but the resemblance was striking. unfortunately, she really pissed me off by a) being in the wrong lane of a two lane street where she was trying to make a left turn through rush hour traffic. b) trying to gun her way through traffic and across the street, nearly hitting me, then giving me the finger like i was doing something more than waiting for her to get the hell out of the way. true to form, i made an audible list of every profane word i could think of, pointing at her, shouting, "I'm gonna kick your ass, Channing!".

so, Carol, next time you're on Hollywood Squares, you better watch out. i'll be there in the studio audience, waiting. Martin Mull and Whoopi won't be able to save you.

the title of this article cracks me up. someone at the Tulsa World was a little bored yesterday.

County dons chicken suit.

tonight on the syndiBuffy double feature: "Crush" and "I Was Made To Love You"

then, whether a happy happenstance or good planning, the UPN Buffy rerun tonight is "The Body", which is, in fact, the episode that's supposed to come after "I Was Made To Love You". for those of us trying to get them in the right order, this is happy news. yay!

"The Body", if you haven't seen it, is very sad. have a box of Puffs handy!
out of the blue, i just received a call from Clay, my first boyfriend. he's been living in smoggy California for a long while now. we kept up through email for a bit, then suddenly there was nothing more from him. today, he is in Tulsa. yay! so, after work, i'm gonna meet up with him, and take him home to meet my current boyfriend and our roommate, who is also an ex-boyfriend.

thinking about how many of my friends are also my exes, i think i need to widen my circle of friends so that it includes non-exboyfriends. good thing i have Jean around.
Slayage.com has a copy of a post that Joss left over at The Bronze about shooting an episode of Angel. is it real? i dunno.

and hey! "Once More, With Feeling" is # 9 in the television catagory on Time's list of Best for 2001!
fodder for the conspiracy theorists.

tonight on the syndiBuffy double feature: "Checkpoint" and "Bloodties"
movies watched (for the first time) over the weekend: Moulin Rouge and All Over The Guy.

i liked both (though during All Over The Guy, i kept thinking about a certain someone who really doesn't like Adam Goldberg and wondering 'Do I keep missing whatever it is that's so bad about him?'), but during Moulin Rouge, there were several places where the voices weren't quite synchronized, and throughout the movie, either the music overwhelmed the voices or the chorus of voices would be unintelligible. so i'm wondering now, was that just the DVD or was it that way on the bigscreen too?
Buffy toon news
i've been having trouble posting all weekend. i don't know if it was a problem with Blogger or if it was something on my end at home, but i had a nice long rant written about Governor Keating, who called Tulsa 'dumb' because his wife didn't win the Republican primary for the District 1 Congressional race (here's the article). off course, it was a primary race, so he must have meant that District 1 Republicans were dumb, but being the partisan lapdogs that they are, the city and county GOP leadership have been making excuses for him ("he's just emotional"). this is the same governor who said that the best way to deal with the Oklahoma Education Association was "homicide."

as for his wife, Cathy, she didn't actually lose the primary. with no majority winner, she with 30% of the vote, and John Sullivan with 45%, were to have a runoff next month. Cathy announced on Friday that she was dropping out. instead of being a loser, she's a quitter.

so long, Cathy. it looks like Frank will have to whore you out another way to get to DC.
