other than Baltimore, MD (#6) and Washington DC (#11) everything else was California or Gulf coast. i didn't think my preferences for high crime rates and few educational opportunities would weigh so heavily. (actually, i think it was my preference for warmth, lots of rain, and very little snow that did it.)
